What a season for the Walt Whitman HS Boy's Varsity Soccer Team. After posting a 15-3-1 record in the regular season, the Vikings breezed through the playoffs to win the Maryland 4A State Championship. A solid defense was aided by a lethal attack that scored an incredible 20 goals during playoffs alone. The team, coached by Dave Greene, was assisted from the first day of tryouts until the state final by ATD staff members, Matt Arrington and Dennis Schardt.

"It's an honor to be a part of a program that has so much history in the area." Arrington continued, "No other public school in the area carries the kind of weight that Whitman does in terms of their soccer program." Schardt added, "Being former players at the school, we understand the expectations that come with being on this team. (Matt and I) can relate to what these players go through on a day-to-day basis and we tried to bridge that gap between player and coach. We were fortunate to have such talented players on the team this year."

This is Walt Whitman High School's ninth state championship for Boy's Soccer and the first since 2009.

In addition, the Girl's Varsity soccer team also capped an incredible season by winning the Maryland 4A State Championship the night after the boy's team secured their victory.
